Wessex (/ ˈwɛsɪks /; Old English: Westseaxna rīċe [westsæɑksnɑ riːt͡ʃe], the 'Kingdom of the West Saxons') was an Anglo-Saxon kingdom in the south of Great Britain, from 519 until England was unified by Æthelstan in 927.
